Migration without observability is incomplete

After cutover, teams need to answer basic questions quickly: which consumers are failing, which backends are slow, whether token errors are rising, which products are hitting quota, and whether a release changed behavior. If observability is added later, the first incident becomes the design workshop.

Target model

Define standard logs, metrics, dashboards, alert thresholds, and support runbooks before migration. Include platform-level signals and API-specific business signals. Ensure correlation IDs are propagated consistently and that sensitive values are not logged.

Operating outcomes

  • Faster triage during cutover.
  • Clear ownership between API platform and backend teams.
  • Evidence for consumer impact analysis.
  • Better governance of error and latency budgets.

Observability is how architecture remains accountable in production.
