Reuse can hide blast radius

Shared flows are valuable because they standardize security, logging, traffic management, and error handling. During migration, that same reuse means one faulty shared flow can affect many proxies. Treat shared flows as platform components with versioning, ownership, and independent validation.

Migration approach

Inventory every proxy dependency and classify shared flows by purpose. Validate KVM references, target servers, flow hooks, policy behavior, and environment-specific configuration before proxy migration. Where shared flows have mixed concerns, split them before go-live rather than carrying ambiguity forward.

Operating standard

  • Use semantic versioning for shared flow changes.
  • Run regression tests against dependent proxies.
  • Keep security shared flows under tighter review.
  • Document rollback for shared flow deployments.

Shared flows should make governance easier, not make incidents wider.
