Product access defines business exposure

API products are where exposure, quota, entitlement, and consumer access come together. If an app's product association is pending in Edge, setting it to approved in Apigee X changes the business decision. If an association was revoked, approving it in the target can reopen access to APIs that a governance process had closed.

Source-led migration

Build migration logic that reads the product association status from Edge and applies it explicitly in the target. Where Apigee X behavior differs, create a status translation table approved by platform governance and security. Never bury default approval behavior inside migration scripts.

Validation

  • Compare product association counts by status before and after migration.
  • Run runtime tests for approved, pending, and revoked cases.
  • Review exceptions with product owners before go-live.
  • Keep the manifest as audit evidence.

Migration should preserve governance decisions with the same seriousness as it preserves proxy bundles.
